Dave Macleod

I’m 25 years old andclimb more orless full time in most disciplines to a high level. In between climbing I’m doing an MSc in sport & exercise science. My research interest within sport science is in forearm blood flow and fatigue during sport rock climbing, but I’m also interested in motor skill learning and motivation in sport. I’ve been climbing for 11 years with a particular focus on traditional onsighting, headpointing, sport climbing, bouldering, Scottish winter climbing and most recently, dry tooling. I get most enjoyment from
exploring the quiet Scottish cliffs doing new
routes (of which there are many!). My ultimate
ambitions are to climb at a respectable world
class level in all the disciplines at the same
time. This ambition is a very recent one and
2004 has been promising so far with bouldering
achievements in Chironico (Serre Moi Fort,
Font 8a/8a+ and Rah Plats Plats, Font 8a),
sports climbing in Ceuse (Chronique de la
Haine, F8c) and Annot (Jeu d’ Artifice, F8b) and
dry tooling in Uschinen, Switzerland (Vertical
Limit, M12, after 5 tries and Tool Time M10+,
after 2 tries). My hardest Scottish Winter Route
this year was The Cathedral X,11, The Cobbler,
ground up.

I’ve been using Black Diamond gear for 5 years now. My favorite piece of Black Diamond kit has to be the Fusion; The new possibilities for efficient movement are really exciting in mixed right now and innovations like this go hand in hand with developments on the cliffs like The Cathedral.
