How did the Spiroll Rope Protector come about and how does it work?
It's a fascinating story in the founder's own words:
Back in 2001, I was enrolled in a Production & Operations course for my MBA. Our assignment was to invent a fictitious product and come up with a production plan for its manufacture. I remembered that a recent rock climbing outing had us padding edges with backpacks and jackets, preserving our ropes but destroying our gear. There were no readily available rope protectors at the local climbing stores so I decided that this fictitious device would be a commercially available rope protector for the everyday climber at an affordable price. When I returned home for Thanksgiving break, I asked my father, a seasoned mechanical engineer, for his input. In the space of an evening we had an idea for an actual prototype and a family business was born.
Today, the Spiroll® has evolved into a climbing, rescue, rope access, maritime, and industrial product line, with distribution all over the world.
